The air flow through a ball-and-socket ventilator is controlled by a cover plate which is adjusted by means of a screw-threaded spindle. As illustrated, the cover plate 140 has legs 130 sliding in guides 120 in the ball and a screwthreaded spindle 5 attached to the plate 140 is moved axially by rotation of a sleeve nut 180. The nut is integral with radial struts 27 of an operating ring 20. Opening movement of the cover is limited by engagement of a collar 24 of the spindle 5 with a shoulder 25 on the inside of the sleeve nut 180. In modifications, Figs. 1-5 (not shown), a control knob (6) is fixed relative to the screw (5) which passes through a nut (12) which is fixed relative to the ball by struts (13). The frictional resistance to ball movement is controlled by screws 16 and the cover plate 10 may be flat, convex or concave. In a furthermodification (not shown) the spindle and control means are relatively fixed and the spindle screws into or out of the cover plate.</p> |
