The method uses a high pressure liquid jet (21) and incorporates an additional dry and/or wet finishing phase with de-burring solids such as glass or steel balls to remove burrs (14) from the ends of workpieces (10). The de-burring process is carried out before or with the liquid cleaning process and can be followed by a rinsing process where a liquid rinse is used to flush out the particles clinging to the workpiece.
