PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle detector for accurately determining traffic lanes. SOLUTION: This vehicle detector for detecting vehicles 4a and 4b from a change in magnetism due to the vehicles 4a and 4b passing through a road, is provided with a plurality of magnetometric sensors 1a and 1b having sensitivity axes directed in directions different from each other, a computation part 2 for computing each of the sums S<SB>1</SB>and S<SB>2</SB>of magnetic changes I<SB>1</SB>and I<SB>2</SB>caused by the passing vehicles and detected by the sensors 1a and 1b, and a determination part 3 for determining traffic lanes R and L through which the vehicles have passed based on a correlation between the sums S<SB>1</SB>and S<SB>2</SB>. There is a difference in vehicle signal angleϕbetween the lanes R and L, and the sensors are different in output characteristics relative to a sensor installation angleθ<SB>0</SB>dependently on the signal angleϕ, and therefore the lanes R and L can be determined from the sums S<SB>1</SB>and S<SB>2</SB>.
