PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which has high brightness, hardly causes concentration quenching, and exhibits a light emission peak at a relatively short wavelength. SOLUTION: The compound is represented by the general formula (1) (A is an aromatic hydrocarbon residue or aromatic heterocyclic residue comprising a six-membered single ring or condensed ring which may have one or more substituents; Y is O or CR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each independently H, an alkyl, an aromatic hydrocarbon group or aromatic heterocyclic group which comprises a five- or six-membered single ring or condensed ring, an alkoxycarbonyl, an aryloxycarbonyl, an amino, an acyl, an acylamino, carbamoyl, hydroxy, cyano or an aralkyl, provided that the groups may have substituents, respectively; X is H or an arbitrary substituent; Z is an aromatic hydrocarbon group or aromatic heterocyclic group which comprises a five or six-membered single ring or condensed ring which may have one or more sustituents).
