PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal displacement correcting method for a machine tool wherein thermal displacement is accurately corrected, and also to provide a device thereof. SOLUTION: In the thermal displacement correcting method for a machine tool 1, the temperature changes of a machine body 10 at least at two places where the temperature changes with different time constants in response to the influence of a heating source are detected by temperature sensors S1, S2 , each of the detected temperature changes is compounded to calculate the compounded temperature change having time constant almost same as that of the thermal displacement of the machine tool 1. A machining error is corrected based on the thermal displacement which changes corresponding to the compounded temperature change. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
