PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-speed photothermographic material which can be processed in water and can form an image with low Dminand with decreased haze after processing. SOLUTION: The emulsion is a black-and-white photothermographic emulsion comprising a hydrophilic binder, a nonphotosensitive supply source of a reducible silver ion, and chemically sensitized photosensitive silver halide particles. At least 70% of the whole projected area of the photosensitive silver halide particles is possessed by tabular silver halide particles containing at least 70 mol% bromides with respect to the whole silver halides and the rest halides being iodides or chlorides. The tabular particles have at least 0.02μm and up to and including 0.10μm average thickness, at least 0.5μm and up to and including 8μm equivalent circular diameter and at least 5:1 aspect ratio.
