<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized light quantity adjusting device capable of saving power and highly accurately controlling light transmission characteristics and an image pickup device provided with the light quantity adjusting device. <P>SOLUTION: For the light quantity adjusting device, a solid state element capable of adjusting a light transmission state is used. The solid state element has a first solid state element region provided inside an effective luminous flux and a second solid state element region provided outside the effective luminous flux, and is provided with a control means for controlling the light transmission state of the first solid state element region on the basis of information regarding driving characteristics in changing the light transmission states of the first solid state element region and the second solid state element region by a driving means and the result of detecting the light transmission state of the second solid state element region changed by drive in the driving means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
