<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make effective the forced regeneration of a particulate filter by increasing the accuracy of the forced regeneration. <P>SOLUTION: A post-injection amount A necessary for the forced regeneration of the particulate filter is calculated. A residual gas ratio B of gases remaining in a cylinder combustion chamber and a wall surface adhesion ratio C of the gases adhered to the wall surface of a cylinder when a post-injection is performed are calculated. An actually injected post-injection amount D is calculated based on the residual gas ratio B and the wall surface adhesion ratio C, i.e., the ratio of the fuel not contributing to the rise of exhaust gas temperature and not contributing to the forced regeneration of the particulate filter, and the temporarily calculated necessary post-injection amount A, and the required injection amount D thus calculated is post-injected. Since the post-injection amount is determined taking into account that a part of the post-injected fuel remains in the combustion chamber and is adhered to the wall surface of the cylinder which do not contribute to the rise of the exhaust gas temperature, the accuracy of the forced regeneration of the particular filter can be increased to make effective the forced regeneration. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
