PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backup method with which backup and virus check can simultaneously be performed and past volumes can be restored by dating back for an arbitrary time from present time and to provide a storage controller. SOLUTION: Division of a pair of volumes is instructed to a storage device formed of a pair of a main volume and a duplicate volume and a backup volume. Backup is performed between the divided duplicate volume and the backup volume corresponding to it. The back-up volumes by the number of designated generations are secured on the duplicate volume, and a virus is checked in the duplicate volume. When the virus is not detected, a content of the duplicate volume is duplicated to the backup volume becoming a storage destination of the content on the latest generation of the duplicate volume. The generations of the backup volumes becoming the storage destinations on the content of the generation prior to the latest generation are updated, and reconnection of the divided pair of volumes is instructed.
