METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATICALLY LOCATING TEXT AREAS IN AN IMAGE

Disclosed is a system for automatically locating text areas in a digital image, comprising a unit (150, 160) that converts an input digital image into a binary image, a unit (170) which locates potential text areas that are applied to the binary image, and a unit (180) which selects actual text areas highlighted by the locating unit (170). The unit (170) locating potential text areas is advantageously provided with means for applying at least one morphological filter to the binary image that results from the conversion of the digital image into a binary image. The selecting unit (180) carries out a method for dividing the intensity of gray levels applied to the image supplied by a processing unit (160) that is included in the unit (150, 160) converting the digital image into a binary image.
