<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet inspecting device for enhancing inspecting performance by using a digital filter to effectively remove noise components through the use of the characteristic of a signal which is obtained by a detector. <P>SOLUTION: The detector 2 detects various physical characteristics from the paper sheets P carried on a carrier path 1, and converts them into electric signals. The output signal of the detector 2 is amplified by an amplifier 3, converted into digital data by an A/D converter 4, and transmitted to the digital filter 5. The digital filter 5 removes the noise components by logically filtering digital data from the A/D converter 4, and transmits the data to a processing part 6. The processing part 6 performs a prescribed inspection processing with respect to digital data from the A/D converter 4, determines whether the physical characteristics are included in the paper sheets P or not, and transmits the determination result to a control part 7.
