PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin accumulator made more convenient by making it possible to detect the amount of coins inserted, even if a plurality of kinds of coins are inserted. SOLUTION: The coin accumulator has a plurality of coin passages 1 determined for different kinds of coins given different bases; a plurality of ratchet wheels 3 each mounted around a rotary detection shaft 2 correspondingly to each of the coin passages 1, with the gear ratio of each ratchet wheel matching the inverse ratio of the base of each coin falling down the corresponding coin passage 1; and a feed part 4 which uses the force of collision of the coin falling down the coin passage 1 to rotate the corresponding ratchet wheel 3 by one pitch of a pawl tooth so as to drive and rotate the rotary detection shaft 2 by a corresponding angle. The total of the bases of the coins inserted is calculated on the basis of the rotation angle of the rotary detection shaft 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
