THICKENER AND COSMETIC OBTAINED BY FORMULATING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickener which expresses excellent thickening effects, feeling of use and outer appearance in all cosmetics by improving problems involved in a polymer gel thickener obtained by radical polymerization in conventional polymerization systems. SOLUTION: In a composition consisting of an organic solvent or oil component as a dispersion medium and water as a dispersed phase, the thickener is composed of a microgel obtained by dissolving a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer into the dispersed phase followed by radical-polymerizing it therein, and the cosmetic is obtained by formulating the thickener.
