<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle controller which can prevent the drop of battery life. <P>SOLUTION: This vehicle controller generates electricity by driving an engine 2 when the SOC of a battery 5 for supplying a motor 3 with power and charges the battery 5 by its generated power, and this performs power generation by driving the engine 2 in its earlier stage when the load of a vehicle is larger than a specified set value as compared with the time when the load is not larger than the specified set value. Therefore, the charge and discharge of the battery 5 are repeated bit by bit, which restrains the battery 5 from getting hot by the large discharge or the heat generation due to the large discharge.
