AUDIO BUFFER STATION ALLOCATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make digital audio processing possible by receiving broadcast signals and converting the signals into data streams.

SOLUTION: Signals from a station selected by a user are converted into digital data streams and inputted to a first-in first-out (FIFO) memory unit to locally store the segments of the broadcast signals of predetermined duration on different FIFO tracks of a user receiving device. The FIFO is dynamically allocated to the selected station and when the FIFO memory associated with the selected station becomes full, older information or older contents are removed out of the FIFO as new information or new contents are applied to the FIFO. Partitions or markers are provided for separating broadcast content items, such as sequentially played songs within the stored segment, to move the increment to selected positions within the stored segment.
