An elongated gas generator (12) is located in the region of a B- column (16) extending along a roof frame (14) and is provided with a gas outlet (18) oriented in a radial direction. A gas distributor (20) comprises three tube sections joined end to end, the first section (22) being secured to the gas outlet and the other two sections (24) being used to direct gas from the generator into a side airbag (28).
