Agents for oral use or intravenous administration, efficacious for diseases with the need to enhance the production of nerve growth factor (NGF) comprise ground material and/or an extract obtained from hop and/or Angelica keiskei. An independent claim is also included for nerve growth factor production enhancers and foods, drinks and feeds comprising ground material and/or an extract obtained from hop and/or Angelica keiskei or xanthohumol or its salt. ACTIVITY : Nootropic; Neuropathic. In the swim to platform memory test in Wistar rats xanthohumol at 10 mg/kg reduced latency on day 2 to 71.3 seconds compared to 133.4 seconds for a control.
