There is provided a fitting 1 for a composite pipe, the pipe comprising two or more plastics layers 6,7 and at least one reinforcing and/or barrier layer interposed therebetween 8. The fitting comprises a hollow tubular internal supporting insert member 3 and a hollow tubular external coupling member 2, the insert 3 and the coupling member 2 being dimensioned so as to define an annular space adapted to receive one or more pipe ends, the insert providing a supporting layer for the pipe during installation of the fitting and comprising, in use, a seal 19 and a diffusion barrier material for fluid flowing in the pipe. The external coupling member may be an electrofusion coupler. |
