Evaporation arrangement comprises a combustion/mixing chamber (14) into which air enters via an inlet opening (16), a hydrocarbon evaporation device consisting of a porous evaporation medium (24) and a first heating device (34), and an auto-ignition unit (28) for igniting a hydrocarbon/air mixture. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Process for starting an evaporation arrangement comprising heating and evaporating liquid hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon-containing liquid, mixing the vapor produced with air, igniting the mixture produced to start a mixture combustion, maintaining the combustion up to a predetermined time period and/or a predetermined temperature in one or more system regions, and stopping the combustion after the required temperature region is reached; and (2) Reformer for recovering hydrogen from a hydrocarbon/air mixture using the evaporation arrangement.
