PURPOSE: Thumbnail data playing device is provided to play thumbnail by motion pictures having audio data instead of a still picture, thereby promoting the identification or presentation of a program by the thumbnail. CONSTITUTION: A thumbnail data playing device includes a control part(61), a decoder(62), and a reading part(63). The reading part reads out navigation information recorded to an optical disc(600), such as an ID of a program, and play-starting/ending time data. The control part analyzes play-starting/ending time data in the program. When the device includes speakers and/or a display part, or interfaces with speakers and/or a display part, the thumbnail is output via the decoder. The thumbnail is output by decoded bit streams(C) or digital bit streams(D).
