PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for testing the performance of a UART(Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) driver are provided to use a test program for the function verification of a UART driver. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for testing the performance of a UART driver(310) comprises a transmitting task part(300), a receiving task part(340), and message queues(320,330). The transmitting task part(300) creates a test traffic containing a flag, dummy data, a counter, and a check sum. The receiving task part(340) executes the processing of the test traffic. The message queues(320,330) temporarily store the traffic and test traffic transmitted from the UART driver(310). The first message queue(320) receives the traffic, the second message queue receives the test traffic.
