FIELD: sorbents. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to aluminum hydroxide-based inorganic sorbents selectively recovering lithium from naturally occurring lithium-containing brines. For that end, concentrated aluminum chloride and lithium hydroxide solutions or solid reagents in presence of water at liquid-to-solids ratio 1.1-4.4 are brought into direct contact and resulting compound is treated with water so desorbing a part of lithium.
