FIELD: instrumentation. SUBSTANCE: invention can be employed to determine depth of lying of elements of grounding grid of power supply objects and railway traction substations. Procedure establishing presence of vertical elements of grounding grid includes movement of transducer over route of horizontal elements of grounding grid, measurement of magnetic field of noise on territory of electric installation, recording of least value of vertical component Hz of magnetic field of noise corresponding to actual position of vertical element of grounding grid on route of horizontal elements of grounding grid.
