PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the inadvertent selection of the focus detection region not desired by a user by forming a region where the focus detection region is not selected when a second decision range is set at the time of the second and subsequent focus detection operations. SOLUTION: Only the x-axis coordinates in the horizontal direction of the line of sight is used for the first selection of the line of sight detection. The left side distance measurement point 7L is selected if -x2<=x<=-x1. The right side distance measurement point 7R is selected if x1<=x<=x2.
