PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching element stabilizing the resistance value of low resistant characteristics. SOLUTION: The switching element has two stable resistance values for an applied voltage, and comprises a plurality of bistable material layers 33a-33e divided with a plurality of metal intermediate layers 34a-34d and two metal electrodes 32a and 32d sandwiching the bistable material layers 33a-33e. The resistance value of the low resistant characteristics can be stabilized without receiving influence of a defect part 35 formed in the form of a filament. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
