PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce vibration of an engine capable of controlling cylinder rest. SOLUTION: In order to prevent vibration of the engine capable of controlling the cylinder rest, this method comprises a process for detecting engine vibration quantity of every cylinder at the time of the cylinder rest of the engine, a process for comparing change quantity of the engine vibration quantity of every cylinder with a threshold value, and a process for stopping the cylinder rest control when the change quantity of the engine vibration quantity of any cylinder is at or above the threshold value. Thereby, when the engine vibration quantity at the time of cylinder rest is unstable and changes largely, it is determined that vibration isolation by an active type vibration isolation support device M is impossible and the cylinder rest control is stopped, and accordingly, an event of occurrence of engine vibration that cannot be restrained even by the active type vibration isolation support device M can be prevented.
