<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an individual identification device for fetching data for individual identification automatically, and performing authentication and creation of a registration database by single device easily. <P>SOLUTION: An iris detection part 102 extracts an iris image from an video signal output of an imaging part 101. An iris code generating part 103 generates an iris code from the iris image. A verification part 104 verifies this iris code with an iris code registered in the registration database 105. If both codes are matched (indicated by OK), a signal OUT is output. If both codes are not matched (indicated by NG), the iris code generated from the iris code generating part 103 is registered into the registration database 105 by an automatic registration part 106 as one of information indicating a feature of the identified person.
