The novel compound magnesium cyclamate is prepared by reacting cyclamic acid in solution, preferably in water with a basic magnesium compound such as the oxide, hydroxide or carbonate. The product is used as a sweetening agent, optionally in combination with other sweetening agents such as saccharine and sodium saccharine (see Division A2).ALSO:Foodstuffs and beverages are sweetened by the addition of magnesium cyclamate (see Division C2) suitably in aqueous solution or in admixture with solid diluents e.g. as granules or tablets and optionally in the presence of other sweetening agents such as sodium saccharine. |
