PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement pump having tip of a vane stably slid on inner peripheral surface of a cam ring, improving discharge efficiency of the pump without causing collision sounds with the cam ring, and preventing uneven abrasion and seizing of the rotor and side wall part of the pump body. SOLUTION: In this variable displacement pump 10, intake side back pressure grooves 70A, 70B corresponding to intake side regions, and discharge side back pressure grooves 80A, 80B corresponding to discharge side regions, of the pump room 29 are formed on a portion along rotation path of a base end part 23A of a holding groove 23 holding the vane 24 of the rotor 22 at side wall parts (a side plate 13, a cover 14) of a pump body 11. Discharge fluid from the discharge side opening is introduced into the intake side back pressure groove 70A, and it is introduced into the discharge side back pressure grooves 80A, 80B of both the side wall parts of the pump body 11 without passing through the intake side back pressure grooves 70A, 70B.
