PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee a uniform stress to a system to move two suction valves of each cylinder. SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine furnished with the two suction valves V1on each of the cylinders is furnished with an electronically controlled system to operate the valves. An electronic control unit 16 is programmed to separately control the two suction valves according to a first rule of opening and closing and a second rule of opening and closing different from each other. The electronic control unit 16 is designed to reverse the rules of opening and closing of the two suction valves concerned in each action cycle of the engine or in a cycle equal to more than one of the action cycles of the engine , and consequently, each of the two suction valves alternately follows the first rule and the second rule of opening and closing.
