<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proton conductive polymer, its manufacturing method, a polymer membrane using the above proton conductive polymer, and a fuel cell using this. <P>SOLUTION: There is obtained the proton conductive polymer which is characterized by containing a repeating unit indicated by image 1. Its lower manufacturing cost compared with the conventional fluorine type membrane makes possible for it to be commercially used for automobile fuel cells. Even in the case of DMFC which uses methanol as a fuel, it gives no adverse effects on cell performances since the crossover of fuel is low. In comparison with the conventional sulfonated polyimide membrane, it excels in mechanical strengths and has very high ion conductivity (proton conductivity), so that it can improve the performances of cells. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
