<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a uniformly bright display screen on a liquid crystal display panel by efficiently introducing the emitted light from a light emitting element into a light guide. <P>SOLUTION: A light diffusing pattern DP is formed on the light exiting face of the light guide GLB opposite to the liquid crystal display panel, the pattern DP having a plurality of grooves with a V-shape cross section formed along the same direction as the propagation direction (outgoing direction) of the principal rays. A light reflecting pattern RP is formed on the light reflecting face in the opposite side to the liquid crystal display panel PNL, the pattern RP having a plurality of grooves with a V-shape cross section formed in the direction crossing with the propagation direction of the principal rays. Thereby, the light introduced into the light guide GLB is repeatedly diffused and reflected by the light diffusing pattern DP and the light reflecting pattern RP to generate the illumination light which uniformly illuminates the liquid crystal display panel. Thus, a bright display screen having the brightness balance and the brightness peak controlled as required is obtained on the display face of the liquid crystal display panel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
