PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera which a user can use without considering mode switching by eliminating a dedicated mode changeover switch. SOLUTION: A system control part includes a mode switching part 86 for making a switch between a photographing mode and a reproduction mode, a reproduction mode control part 88 for controlling the reproduction mode and a photographing mode control part 90 for controlling the photographing mode. A detection output of a contact sensor 82 for detecting the contact with a release switch is inputted to the mode switching part 86. That is, the mode switching part 86 switches the photographing mode and the reproduction mode on the basis of the detection output of the contact sensor 82. In particular, when the detection output of the contact sensor 82 is on, the photographing mode control part 90 performs control and when the detection output of the contact sensor 82 is off, the reproduction mode control part 88 performs control.
