PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a production cost and to improve versatility without requiring high precision in securing prescribed relief operation. SOLUTION: This relief valve has: a seat member 2 for guiding high pressure to a passage 2b bored in an axis part; a valve element 1 seating a pointed tip part 1a at an opening 2a of the passage 2b in the seat member 2 while being energized by an energizing spring S from behind; and a guide rod 4 inserted through the axis part of the valve element 1 to permit sliding motion in the axis direction in the valve element 1 so that the tip faces the opening 2a through the passage 1b opened in the axis part at the pointed tip part of the valve element 1. The diameter of the opening 2a is set to a diameter D1 on the pressure receiving face side, and the diameter of the guide rod 4 is set to a diameter d1 on the back pressure face side.
