PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a solution adapted to an evaluation function remain by regarding the set of the design parameters of an optical multilayer film filter as a gene, generating many genes at random (gene-pool), and repeating respective stages (generations) such as multiplication, selection, crossing and variation by the evaluation function for the genes. SOLUTION: In the variation stage of a design method for an optical filter using genetic algorithm, change that a layer whose refractive index is different is inserted in an optional layer and change that the optional layer is removed are given to a vector to which the change is given.
