A brazing filler metal which comprises, as main components, gold, silver, copper and an additive element comprising at least one element of aluminum, bismuth, gallium, germanium, indium, antimony, silicon, tin, lead, tellurium and thallium, wherein the additive elements in total account for more than 1 wt % and less than 36 wt % of the filler metal, and gold and silver account for less than 80 wt % and less than 42 wt %, respectively. The brazing filler metal can be used for joining a metal used for a member requiring ornamental appearance, such as stainless steel, at a low temperature sufficient to prevent the structure of the metal from becoming coarsened, while securing satisfactory resistance to corrosion and satisfactory joining strength. |
