A castor wheel with brake has the cowl wheel housing (2) provided with a vertical bore (20) for the swivel action and with a second bore (22) near the front end and with inner ribbing (220). The front bore has a button fitting operating on a ratchet mechanism (3) which presses and releases a brake shoe with successive operation of the button. Two levers (71, 72) are hinged in a recess (24) at the front edge of the cowl to operate the combined swivel and wheel brake, with the rear end of the brake lever having a ratchet grip (300) onto a locking profile (42) attached to the swivel axle. Both brake levers are pressed down; one to lock the brakes and one to release them.
