The present invention relates to a method and a wood preserving composition which comprises mixtures of a metal compound, complexing agents selected fro m ethanolamines, polyethylenimine, ammonia or a mixture of these compounds, an d a vinyl based polymer selected from poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA), poly(acrylamide)(PA), poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone)(PVP) and poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide)(PNIPAM). The resulting metal amine solution can then be used to formulate a variety of metal-based cellulosic material preserving products.< /SDOAB>
