<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can always output an image of stable high quality by setting secondary transfer conditions with quick response to a change in environment with simple and inexpensive configuration without requiring an apparatus space. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus having a first image carrier 1, an electrostatic charging means 2, a developing means 3, a second image carrier 40 to which a developer image is transferred from the first image carrier, a first transfer means 4, and a second transfer means 7 has: a density detecting means 9 of detecting the density of the developer image on the first image carrier; a developer electrostatic charging quantity calculating means of calculating the developer electrostatic charging quantity of the developer image on the basis of the surface potential of the first image carrier after electrostatic charging which is predicted from electrostatic charging conditions of the first image carrier by the electrostatic charging means 2, the detection result of the density detection means 9 detecting the density of a predetermined developer image formed on the first image carrier 1, and a developing bias value in the formation of the developer image; and a control means of determining the value of a second transfer bias on the basis of the calculation result of the developer electrostatic charging quantity calculating means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
