<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber capable of reducing loss by reducing the germanium concentration of a center core while having a refractive index profile satisfying desired optical characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber is provided with a plurality of glass layers for which wavelength dispersion at a set wavelength within the range of the wavelength ≥1460 nm and <625 nm is ≤8 ps/nm/km and compositions are different between adjacent layers, and at least two glass layers are formed on the inner side of a reference layer to be the reference of refractive index distribution among the glass layers. When defining the maximum specific refractive index difference to the reference layer of a first glass layer formed on the innermost side as Δ1, a specified refractive index difference to the reference layer of a second glass layer formed second from the inner side as Δ2, and the specific refractive index difference to pure quartz of the reference layer as ΔC, Δ1>ΔC>Δ2, Δ1>1.0% and ΔC<0 are satisfied. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
