PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the amount of oxygen used by carrying out gasification of waste plastic particles at a low temperature. SOLUTION: A method for gasifying a waste plastic comprises partially oxidizing plastic particles containing chlorine with oxygen and steam. In the gasification method, a partial oxidation temperature is≥1,100°C and a gas retention time in a gasification furnace is≥2 sec and generated gas is thermally recovered. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
