PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element and its manufacturing method wherein deterioration of light emitting characteristics by moisture can be prevented and stable light emitting characteristics can be maintained for a long time. SOLUTION: This is an organic EL element in which at least a positive electrode 2, an organic substance layer 9 containing a light emitting material, and a negative electrode 3 are laminated on a substrate 1, and in which an inorganic film 11 containing nitrogen is formed so as to cover this laminated body, and this has an inorganic insulating film 10 which does not contain nitrogen as the intermediate film between the laminated body and the inorganic film 11.
