PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a liquid crystal projector equipped with a cooling mechanism for a liquid crystal panel which has high cooling efficiency as compared with an internal heat dissipation system and an air-cooling system. SOLUTION: Heat sinks 34 to 36 are fitted to liquid crystal panels 30 to 32 as the heat source of the liquid crystal projector 1. Heat from the heat sinks 34 to 36 is dissipated to the outside by a heat exchange type cooling mechanism 60. The cooling mechanism 60 is equipped with evaporators 61 to 63 joined with the heat sinks 34 to 36, a compressor 64, and a condenser 65, which exchanges heat between a refrigerant and the outside air to dissipate the heat carried by the refrigerant to outside a housing 2. The heat caused by the liquid crystal panels 30 to 32 never stays in the housing 2 and the liquid crystal panels 30 to 32 can be cooled with more efficiency than an air-cooling type cooling mechanism using a cooling fan.
