PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscopic system that performs an observation by matching an optical adapter mounted at the tip of an insertion portion and adapter information owned by the optical adapter. SOLUTION: This endoscopic system 1 has an electronic endoscope 2 having an imaging element 2a, a plurality of kinds of optical adapters 7a, 7b and 7c that are attachable to and detachable from the tip 21 and have a prescribed observation optical system, a control unit 10 having a CCU 8 receiving image signals from the imaging element 2a and generating image signals and a CPU 18 performing a variety of controls including the control of the processing of the image signals, the control of the endoscope 2 and control or the like of external equipment and an LCD (liquid crystal display) 5 receiving the image signals outputted on the basis of a direction of the CPU 18. The observation optical system forming the optical adapters 7a and 7b is provided with an identification section permitting the identification of the kind of an optical adapter. The CPU 18, on the other hand, has an adapter identification section 18a detecting the identification section and determining the kind of an optical adapter. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
