1,089,328. Measuring blood pressure. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Aug. 5, 1965 [Sept. 14, 1964], No. 33587/65. Heading A5K. [Also in Division G3] An air pump 10 is connected to two systems 25, 50, Fig. 1, the first of which is a constantvolume system and consists of a tank 26, a pressure regulator 28 and a needle valve 30 the output from which passes to atmosphere; the two last-named control the amount and the rate of decrease in the pressure. The tank 26 is also connected to the diaphragm closure 42 of a valve 40 to control the flow therethrough from the second system 50 to atmosphere. The diaphragm is lightly loaded to the closed position by a spring. The second system is part of a blood-pressure measuring-device including an occluding arm-cuff 55 which is pressurised by the pump 10 and a bellows actuator 60 that opens contacts P.C.C. to stop the pump when the cuff pressure has attained the given level. A pressure and a pulse transducer 65, 70 are associated with the second system to give electrical signals indicative of the air pressure and pulse rate. The two air systems may be separate and operate at different pressures. When the desired cuff-pressure is reached and the pump is shut down the pressure in tank 26 reduces at a constant rate and acting on valve 40 causes the cuff-pressure to escape to atmosphere and. hence decrease at a constant rate.
|
