PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact character input device for allowing a user to reduce the number of times of key operations at the time of inputting characters, numerals and symbols, and to easily memorize the arrangement of keys, and to easily and quickly input data compared with a conventional keyboard. SOLUTION: This character inputting device is provided with a display function for dividing characters and symbols into a plurality of groups, and for deciding representatives in each of the groups, and for displaying a plurality of characters and symbols derived from the representatives and a selecting function for selecting the necessary characters and symbols from among the displayed characters and symbols.
