PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing mechanism, capable of preventing sheet jamming in a miniaturized configuration. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer 20 comprises a printing head 28 for defining a printing zone 26 in a housing 24, and a tray 30 for supporting at least one sheet 68. The tray 30 is provided reciprocally movably with respect to the housing 24 so that the tray 30 is moved through the printing zone 28 while the printing head 28 carries out a printing operation on the sheet 68.
