PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine control device for facilitating selection of sewing needles requiring changing of thread so as to appropriately limit the number of times of thread changing. SOLUTION: A microcomputer searches needle bars holding sewing needles having thread of color designated by color data read out in a process s140 (s170). If corresponding needle bars are not detected (s170: NO), sewing operation according to sewing data is stopped (s200), and then the sewing needle requiring thread changing is determined (s210). At this time, the sewing needle having the thread, of which frequency of using is the lowest in sewing operation performed after the stopping of the sewing operation, is selected among the sewing needles set in each of the needle bars.
