A host computer (A) displays the menus with a structure identical to the structure of the menus implemented in an appliance (B). The host computer provides a control command corresponding to the menu of the appliance when a predetermined menu is selected from the displayed menus. The appliance detects and executes an internal command according to the selected menu upon receiving the control command. An independent claim is also included for a user interface apparatus.
