PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which the splay-bend transition of the liquid crystal layer takes place surely at a high speed at a regular driving voltage and it is less to be constrained on the constutional material or on the production process is added. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal layer 2 has a first region 11 in which an orientation direction of a liquid crystal molecule 1 determined by alignment controllability of an alignment layer in contact therewith exists in a first direction 21, a second region 12 in which the orientation direction exists in a second direction 22 turning to the right with >0°and <90°angle with respect to the first direction 21 and a third region 13 which is connected to the second region in which the orientation direction exists in a third direction 23 turning to the left with >0°and <90°angle with respect to the first direction on a liquid crystal surface layer part 10 of the side of at least one out of a pair of alignment layers 3C, 3C and the display is carried out by using bend orientation generated by a disclination line 14 formed on the connection part of the second and third regions acting as a nucleus.
